**The Rhodesian Ridgeback breed of dog was developed to serve South African farmers as a Boerhound (farmer's dog) possessing a fearless protective quality, sight and scent hunting abilities and the attentive nature of a loyal companion.
Today’s Rhodesian Ridgebacks are devoted companion dogs that excel at the competitive sports of lure coursing, obedience, tracking and agility.
In 1986, when we acquired our first Rhodesian Ridgeback, Chapa, little did we realize the path he would lead us down. His independent character and wonderful disposition were repeated in each Ridgeback that followed him into our lives. Our breed education had begun in earnest and along with it came success in conformation, lure coursing and obedience competition. In 1991 the "Omega" kennel name (taken from an old Ferguson family trade name) was established. After years of living with Ridgebacks, we have come to believe the following:
That a biologically appropriate raw diet can lead to optimum canine health.
That through operant conditioning, shaping a dog's behavior with "clicker training" is most effective for training a Rhodesian Ridgeback.
That all of today's breeders have a responsibility to stay abreast of advances in science and technology particularly as they apply to vaccine, disease and genetic research.
That all Rhodesian Ridgeback breeders should actively participate in Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue efforts.
